Manchester Evening News looks at headhunting as a career
This article looked in-depth at the region's booming recruitment industry and what makes a successful headhunter. Mike Tobin commented that executive search offers a good opportunity for those with industry skills looking for a new challenge.
He said: "At senior level, headhunters are recruited from a wide variety of sectors. I was in retailing for 24 years before I got into recruitment."
"For companies looking for high-calibre staff, it is often essential that the headhunter knows that particular industry extremely well, because they can identify whether the candidate has the right attributes."
Sara Gemmell went on to explain how her 20 years in the technology sector, most recently as UK Head of Marketing at XTML, perfectly prepared her for her role as Head of the Technology, Media and Telecommunications practice at Warren Partners. When she joined the firm in 2006, she had been running her own marketing consultancy business for four years.
She said: "I realised that I missed being part of a team. A friend suggested a career in executive selection. After meeting up with founder, Joëlle Warren, I decided it could be an ideal opportunity to transfer my skills."
"A lot of the companies I work with are from the technology industry, which is obviously my background."
