Mike Tobin quoted in Retail Week
On 23 March 2007, Retail Week examined the growing trend for UK retailers to entice homegrown talent overseas, and looked at the importance of selecting the right management to establish new operations in foreign territories.
Mike Tobin, Director at Warren Partners, lived and worked in India for a number of years and explained that a unique blend of skills is required to succeed overseas.
He said: "In the Indian market, there's no shortage of highly educated, incredibly keen people, so the job of incoming UK executives will be to train, develop and pass on the parent company skill sets. Their job is to create a legacy and leave it behind. That requires people to have fantastic retailing skills, but also excellent leadership, coaching and communication skills and the ability to let go."
