Terumo Corporation is a global, Japanese owned multi-national operating in the medical devices sector with a revenue of c£4.2bn.

In 2002, the Group acquired Vascutek - a world leader in the design and manufacture of products that address the needs of vascular and cardiovascular clinicians throughout the world. For almost 30 years, Vascutek had applied advanced and innovative technologies to develop a wide portfolio of products from its manufacturing base near Glasgow. In 2018, Terumo acquired Bolton Medical based in Florida and merged the two businesses to create Terumo Aortic, which now offers a much broader range of devices for surgical grafts for abdominal, cardiothoracic and peripheral applications as well as hybrid and catheter-based stent graft systems for abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms.

The new company has a combined revenue of c $200 million with more than 1,400 employees worldwide. It will continue to conduct its research and manufacturing operations in Glasgow, Scotland, and Florida.  The business is set to grow substantially within the next 3-5 years and is accelerating its development and commercialization of personalised products.

Over the last few years we have help the company recruit a number of senior appointments to the executive team, including:

CFO

The company had been looking to strengthen its Leadership Team further with the creation of a new role – VP Finance and IT, bringing together two key functions which were seen as critical in helping facilitate further expansion and development within the organization. Our search encompassed a broad range of high technology manufacturing sectors, with a candidate pool that extended not only outside Scotland, but outside the UK.  The successful candidate was promoted to CFO some two years later and subsequently became Group Chief Operating Officer.

Chief Commercial Officer

Following the merger with Bolton Medical in the US and the formation of Terumo Aortic, we were asked to conduct and international search to identify a new Global VP Marketing.  We subsequently recruited on their behalf a highly experienced US citizen, living at the time in San Francisco and helped negotiate his relocation with his family to Florida.  Mark Miles has now relocated to the UK with his family as Chief Commercial Officer.

Director of Business Transformation

Having been tasked to recruit a VP Supply Chain to help simplify and consolidate the global supply chain processes within the merged business, we identified a highly experienced candidate from a different sector (global electronics) with a skill set which spanned supply chain, global multi-site management and business transformation. This individual was subsequently recruited into a new role – that of Director of Business Transformation, working alongside the Group Chief Operating Officer on a wider change programme across the Group to help facilitate a step change in operational processes to enable the company to be able to produce personalized medical device manufacture tailored to the specific physiology of individual patients.
