Case Study

Overview

Wilmington plc floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1995. Their vision is simple – they transform knowledge into advantage, keeping their clients at the centre of everything they do. In today’s knowledge economy, where differentiation using traditional criteria is often impossible, Wilmington helps its clients to better understand their challenges and to use information to improve their businesses.

The group has historically expanded through acquisition and is split into three separate divisions (each with multiple business units); Risk & Compliance (providing knowledge, insight and training solutions so that their customers and clients - ranging from international investment banks to private individuals, can navigate regulatory change with ease and stay ahead of the crowd.), Professional Services and Healthcare.

This was an incredibly challenging brief, replacing someone so well-known and respected not just in our business but across the compliance industry and I was delighted that Warren Partners were able to find such an outstanding candidate.

Challenge

The Board was keen to appoint a successor to Bill Howarth, a leading academic and recognised influencer within the global risk and compliance sector who was one of the entrepreneurial founders of the division within Wilmington.

Group HR Director Tony Bainbridge commented “We were looking for someone who could make a real difference both as an inspirational leader for the division to build on the strong foundations already in place and as a change agent, leading a comprehensive transformation agenda linked to digital technology and a next generation product offering”.

Outcome

The Board was delighted with the appointment of Tamara Kahn in 2019. Tamara was previously Chief Operating Officer for Science Group, a global science and technology consulting business providing innovation and R&D services across markets including Medtech, Food and Beverage, Agritech and AI. Reporting directly to the CEO and Chairman, Tamara was responsible for Group business operations as well as being directly involved in the acquisition and subsequent integration of these businesses which helped the organisation grow from £20m to £50m. Tamara also spent four years at Microgen, latterly as MD for their Commercial, Public Sector and Utilities division, which she turned around.

Tony commented “this was an incredibly challenging brief, replacing someone so well-known and respected not just in our business but across the compliance industry and I was delighted that Warren Partners were able to find such an outstanding candidate”.  “Tamara is without doubt one of the brightest people I have ever met.  She picked up what is a complex business incredibly quickly and is doing an exceptional job”.
